Ruth Marie Irvin, 89, of Veedersburg passed away at 12:06 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Franciscan Health Crawfordsville.
Ruth was born Jan. 14, 1935, at Covington the daughter of Elvin Samuel “Sy” and Lula Myrtle (Hughes) Foley. She married Walter C. Irvin on Oct. 18, 1975, at Veedersburg.
Surviving family include: husband Walter C. Irvin of Veedersburg; three sisters, Roseanna Maust of Goshen, Marvel May Moore of Bedford and Linda Lou (Ted) Warfield of Veedersburg; three brothers, Elvin Samuel Foley Jr. of Veedersburg, John Wesley (Lois) Foley of Coatsville, Pennsylvania and Thomas Wayne (Faye) Foley of Noblesville; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Juanita Gillenwater, Shirley June Riley and Amy Leah Furr.
Ruth graduated from Veedersburg High School in 1953. She was employed at GE in Danville, Illinois; and was employed at RMC in Attica for 30 years prior to her retirement.
She enjoyed dancing in her younger years; she enjoyed going to yard sales around the area, always looking for a bargain. She also enjoyed playing cards at the Foley family gatherings, and for many years she had a large pot of coffee and apple cake ready at 10 a.m. Sunday morning for whoever might stop by their house.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg, with Pastor Greg McDonald officiating. Visitation will begin at noon Saturday and continue until the time of service. Burial will be at VA National Cemetery in Danville, Illinois, at a later date.
