Chargers handle Red Ramblers
North Montgomery boys basketball went on the road Saturday night at handled the Attica Red Ramblers by a final score of 60-38. The Chargers held a 14-9 lead after a quarter, and built the lead after that in each quarter. It was 28-16 at halftime and 46-27 after three quarters.
The Chargers had a pair of players in double-figures with Kelby Harwood scoring 19 and Jarrod Kirsch having 12.
With the win the Chargers have won two straight and sees their record improve to 7-10 on the season. North will be back in action this week with just a single game on Thursday when they host Clinton Prairie.
Third quarter dooms Mounties in loss to Trojans
Southmont looked to get back in the win column on Saturday when the Mounties traveled to Covington. Going into the locker room at halftime things were going smooth for South as they led 29-23. However the tides turned quickly in the third with Covington forcing plenty of South turnovers and heading into the final quarter, Southmont went from up six to down by 11 with the Trojans leading 49-38. The home Trojans pulled away further to secure a 66-51 win.
The loss for the Mounties sees their record fall to 6-6 on the year and they’ll have a quick turnaround as they ‘ll host the North Putnam Cougars on Monday in re-scheduled game.
Athenians struggle offensively vs Knights
Crawfordsville boys were back at home Saturday and hosted the Northview Knights with CHS looking to avenge a Friday night loss. The game saw both teams really struggle on offense out of the gate. The visiting Knights led 9-7 after the first quarter then 17-13 at halftime. CHS was still in the game thanks to their defense, but the offensive woes only got worse for the Athenians scoring only two points in the third and they trailed 27-15. Ethan McLemore and Jordan Shrout kept CHS in the game in the fourth but the Knights were able to do enough to come away with a 43-33 win.
“We had to really work on defense to even stay in the game and I was proud of our guys for doing that,” Cville coach David Pierce said. “We battled some foul trouble with Kaden (Patton) and Alec (Saidian) but we looked up and were only trailing by four at half. We played well enough to win defensively, it just comes down to us making shots. Shooting 18% from three and 50% from inside the paint isn’t going to get it done. Some of our guys are worried about their last miss instead of their next make. There’s going to be a lot of shooting this week for sure.”
McLemore had 16 points for CHS in the loss with Shrout having 10. Northview’s Brayden Goff led all scorers with 23 points in the win for the Knights. CHS falls to 6-7 with the loss and the Athenians will host Sagamore Conference foe Western Boone on Thursday.
