School year off to a good start in North district

LINDEN — School is off to a good start at all five of North Montgomery School Corporation buildings. Administrators reported the good news at Monday’s school board meeting.

“We have gotten off to a good start,” high school Principal Jonathon Guthrie said. “We have not had student complaints and the change to a semester format is going smoothly.”

The semester format means there is one more period during the day and each class is shorter when compared to the trimester format. For some students the big adjustment is how much time they have between classes.

Middle School Assistant Principal Laura Bowman said students are learning they cannot meander in the hallways with shorter passing periods.

“We now have four minute passing periods instead of five minutes,” Bowman said. “Students are learning they cannot make an extra lap through the hallways. But, we also have fewer incidents in the hallways compared to last year.”

Business Director Jim McBee reported the locker room and middle school roofing projects should be completed by the end of September. The physical education locker rooms should be completed by next Monday.

Several policy revisions were approved along with high school and middle school student handbooks.

The board approved usage of the auditorium for three performing arts events. The middle school musical will be from Oct. 10-12. The high school fall play will be Oct. 28-30 and the high school musical will be March 8-10, 2024.
