Senator Henry Lane focus of talk

Posted

The General Lew Wallace Study & Museum is pleased to announce the 2024 Dr. Howard Miller Lecture Series beginning with a talk by Montgomery County Historical Society Assistant Director Owen Bennett titled “Reconstructing Henry S. Lane: Redefining Political Legacy Amidst Reconstruction Ambiguity.” The talk will be held in the Carriage House Interpretive Center on the Study Grounds at 7 p.m. March 21.

Bennett is set to discuss groundbreaking insights into the life and contributions of Senator Henry S. Lane. Lane’s active political involvement during the Civil War has been well documented in historical narratives. His actions during the era of Reconstruction however, have been largely misleading or vague. Bennett’s lecture will shed light on this subject, exposing any inaccuracies or gaps present in earlier accounts and providing a clear image of Lane’s post-war political legacy.
