Rock Point Church associate minister Jake Lowe received permission for his church to help a local resident with a new sidewalk at Wednesday’s Crawfordsville Board of Public Works & Safety meeting.

Lowe was given permission to close a lane of Whitlock Avenue at Winsley Avenue from June 11 to June 14 to allow church volunteers to replace the sidewalk for the resident at 513 Winsley Ave. Whitlock and Winsley intersect at the home’s address. Lowe said volunteers from the church will work from 4-8 p.m. each day.

City Street Commissioner Mark Cox said he would provide the church with sufficient lane closure signs and barricades. Police Chief Aaron Mattingly said his department is OK with the street closure at the times requested.

The board also approved a request from Scott Voliva for a sidewalk loan. The loan will be in the amount of $4,800 and be paid back within five years. The street department will oversee the project to make sure the new sidewalk conforms to the city’s ordinance.

The board also approve an agreement for the Fourth of July fireworks show at Milligan Park with Forman Blasters. The agreement was for 2023 and 2024 in the total amount of $11,500 for the two-year period. The board approved the agreement after making sure the one price covered the purchase of fireworks for both years. The cost per year is $5,750.

Barb Wilson of Music on Grant requested the use of Pike Place on June 24 and September for concerts presented by her music students. The request included closing Pike Street from 3-6 p.m. The request was approved.

A request from Jake Dark to place a dumpster on 213 Mill St. for one week beginning June 7 was approved.

City Code Enforcement Officer Barry Lewis received permission to have city street workers mow yards at 608 Wallace Ave., owned by Michael and Nancy Hook, and 301/303 W. North St., owned by Dan Malek. Owners will be invoiced for the work and if not paid, will be added to their city real estate tax bill.
