Mustangs sweep Knights in DH

Fountain Central softball picked up a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon as the Mustangs traveled to Lafayette Central Catholic for a double-header with the Knights. FC had no problems in game one and cruised to a 20-7 win in six innings. The Mustangs pounded out 22 hits with Zoe Foxworthy-Dejournett, Kearney Foxworthy-Dejournett and Sami Krout all picking up four hits. All four of Zoe’s hits were extra-base hits with three doubles and a triple. In total FC recorded 10 extra base hits in the rout. Kacey Kirkpatrick pitched all six innings for FC allowing six hits, and just two earned runs while striking out 10.

Game two for FC proved to be a little more of a battle. The Mustangs trailed 3-2 going into the sixth but evened things up with a Krout RBI single. Then in the top of the seventh with the score even at 3-3, the Mustang offense came alive to score five runs and break the 3-3 tie to lead 8-3 and that would hold as the final score as FC swept the DH. Kirkpatrick launched a solo home run for the Mustangs and had two RBI’s in game two. Krout also had two hits with a pair of RBI’s. Lilly Bennett gave FC five strong innings on the mound allowing just one earned run and four hits while striking out six. Kirkpatrick came in to pitch the final two innings and was perfect while striking out four.

Fountain Central improves to 2-3 with the two wins and will be back in action on Tuesday when they welcome WRC power South Vermillion to Veedersburg for a two-game set. Thursday FC hosts Southmont and next Saturday will be a WRC DH vs North Vermillion.
