Nick Sommer is the plant controller for Acuity Brands Lighting. He grew up in Montgomery County, attended Wabash College, and has spent most of his adult life here.

When he is not working, he loves to travel with his fiancé. They plan to visit all 50 states together. In the spring and summer, he is an avid golfer. But in the fall, he loves to officiate football, from pee wee to the NCAA level.

Sommer is a big fan of 90’s and 2000’s country music. That will usually get “a head bop, knee slap, and hum” from him. He is engaged to his dream girl, Sarah Campbell. They don’t have children yet, but they do have three spoiled puppies. Most of his immediate family live in Montgomery County, including his mother, Stacy Sommer with Aaron Morgan; his father, Scott Sommer; his sister, Abby Walden and her husband, Andrew Walden, with his niece Mila and nephew Oakland; and his brother, Jack.

Sommer decided to participate in the Youth Service Bureau’s fundraiser because the local agency does a lot for the community and “any small part I can do to give back, I am more than happy to do, even if it means dancing with my two left feet!”

Sommer added that the public should come to the event and support him and his partner Ashley Kight because “we have a great lineup of professionals and local stars that will prove to be a fantastic night of entertainment and support a great cause.”

Kight is a fifth grade teacher at Pleasant Hill Elementary. She has lived in Montgomery County her whole life. She is married to David, a teacher at Fountain Central, and they have three children, Will, Claire and Ainsley. Two dogs and a cat round out their family.

“It’s a bit crazy at our house at times, but loads of fun,” she said.

In her spare time, Kight enjoys spending time with her family. They especially love to go on walks. Her husband takes her to football and basketball games and they have fun trying new restaurants. She also likes to read and cook. Her background in dance includes tap and jazz lessons at Crawfordsville Academy of Dance and show choir. She loves to dance to all kinds of music, but 80’s and hip hop are probably her favorite.

Kight participates in the fundraiser because the YSB has many programs that support community children.

“Being an educator for 17 years, I have seen the positive impact that these programs have made on many of the students I have taught,” Kight said. “Dancing with the Montgomery County Stars is such a fun event and raises money for these programs.”

Kight encourages the public to come support her and Sommer. She added that her partner’s excitement and determination have inspired her.

“We have a fun dance line up and we are ready to entertain you,” she said.
