Nick and Sarah Sommer shared slides of their trip to Barbados with the Crawfordsville Rotary Club at their noon meeting. Barbados means "Bearded One." Barbados was settled by the Spanish and Portuguese in the 16th century. In 1627 England claimed the area. Rum, tourism and sugar cane are the main industries. Nick and Sarah enjoyed the historical and rum tours of the island. They enjoyed trying the various food and drinks of the culture. The population of the country is around 280,000 and English is the main language. Today the country is independent.
