Spooky reads and true crime

Posted

Fall in Indiana is a magical time of year, full of colorful trees and kiddos eagerly anticipating carving pumpkins, costumes, and candy. If you want to make this spooky season a little spookier, the Crawfordsville District Public Library has the books and movies you need to do just that!

I would be remiss if I didn’t start out with a book written by our very own Christie Hunt, along with her husband Chris. “Ghosts & Legends of Crawfordsville, Indiana” (133.1 Hunt) will get you started off on the right foot! What’s better than possibly true ghost stories right where you live? Or, if you want something a little further from home, check out “A Haunted Road Atlas” (133.12 Sch). This book includes sinister stops, dangerous destinations, and true crime tales from all over the country and is packed with recommendations of all kinds for your road trip.

If true crime is more up your alley, do we ever have you covered! From true crime in the 1800s such as “Devil in the White City” (364.15 Lar), to more recent horrifying happenings like the Murdaugh case. Check out “Blood on their Hands: Murder, Corruption, and the Fall of the Murdaugh Dynasty” (364.1523 Matney). And to make it even more intriguing, can I interest you in a cookbook? “Cuisine to Kill For” (641.509 Bruni) is the latest book from esteemed author and ghost hunter, Amy Bruni. This book is full of recipes (it IS a cookbook after all) and true crime stories from the world’s most haunted places. It is also the follow-up to Bruni’s first cookbook: “Food to Die For” (641.5 Bruni).

If any of you are like me and really not into horror movies, may I suggest “Casper: 3 Movie Collection” (DVD FIC Cas)? Not scary enough? Okay, how about “America’s Most Haunted Places” (133.12 America) or “Hocus Pocus” (DVD FIC Hoc). There are so many to choose from, I’d recommend coming on in and browsing the DVD section or searching on our catalog.

No matter how much you may (or may not) want to be scared or creeped out, we have what you need. Consider visiting us for some new ideas! These titles and more are currently on display through the end of October. We look forward to assisting you on the second floor soon! Questions?
