State of the City/County to be virtual again

Surge in COVID-19 infections forces format change

The League of Women Voters of Montgomery County has announced that due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County, the State of the City/County Addresses by Mayor Todd Barton and Montgomery County Administrator Tom Klein, scheduled for Jan. 27, will not take place in-person again this year.

Instead, Barton and Klein will be recorded and their comments broadcast on radio station WCDQ 106.3 at 7 p.m. Jan. 27. Their remarks also will be available in podcast format so people can access them at their leisure and from the safety of their own home.

“We just received a COVID update briefing from Dr. Douglas and it isn’t good,” Barton said. “Our local hospital is beyond capacity and our healthcare system is very strained. I really thought we would be able to return to an event this year but things have unraveled on us.”

S. David Long, League event coordinator, said the League encourages all Montgomery County citizens to tune into one of the presentations so that they can be better informed on what is taking place in our city and county that directly impacts them each day.
