Election 2020

State parties sending absentee ballot request forms to voters

Posted

Indiana’s Republican and Democratic parties are sending blank absentee ballot request forms to voters ahead of Nov. 3’s election.

The forms have caused confusion among voters who already received the forms through the Montgomery County Clerk’s Office, clerk Karyn Douglas said.

Voters who haven’t asked for an absentee ballot can use the parties’ forms to obtain one.

The form should be mailed to the Indiana Election Division at 302 W. Washington St. Suite 204, Indianapolis, IN 46204. The requests will then be securely forwarded to the county clerk’s office.

The office has fielded multiple calls about the mailings. Douglas said some callers believed they would be required to vote for candidates belonging to the party that sent the form, which isn’t the case.

Absentee ballot request forms can also be obtained by calling the clerk’s office at 765-364-6430.
