Students earn vet science certificates

Posted

Seven area high school students have completed the Wabash River CTE district Veterinary Science program and have earned a Veterinary Medical Applications Certificate. These students are Hanna Beirman, Davanda Brown, Ashlyn Daniels and Chloe Hardman from Parke Heritage High School and Emily Fitzwater, Isabelle Holtkamp and Madison Myers of North Vermillion High School.

To earn the certificate, students had to complete all veterinary medical academic courses written by Elanco, log 300 hours working in the animal health industry and pass the final exam issued at the end of course completion.

Brown and Beirman have been accepted into Purdue University’s Veterinary Nursing program. Daniels is attending St. Mary’s of the Woods this fall majoring in biology. Fitzwater will be attending Oakland City University majoring in biology with plans to go to vet school. Myers was accepted into the International Business College Veterinary Technician program. Hardman will be attending Oklahoma Horseshoeing School to become a farrier, and Holtkamp will be starting general education courses at Ivy Tech this fall.

The veterinary science program is located at Parke Heritage High School and is instructed by Shannon Witty, RVT. The program is offered through Wabash River Career and Technical Education. To learn more, contact Witty at wittys@ncp.k12.in.us or Craig Newby at cnewby@wrcte.org.
