Tennis Roundup: All three MoCo teams earn Friday wins

Chargers begin season with sweep of Red Ramblers

North Montgomery girls tennis got their season started finally on Friday as the Chargers hosted the Attica Red Ramblers. North was able to make quick work of Attica and come away with a 5-0 sweep.

At one singles senior Sydney Neideffer was a 6-0, 6-0 winner. Junior Abigail Allen won her match 6-0 6-0 at two singles. Freshman Kate Merica was also a  6-0, 6-0 winner at three singles in her varsity debut for the Chargers.

At one double Senior Shayna Ratcliff and Junior Reagan Little were 6-1, 6-2 winners and rounding out the wins for the Chargers at two doubles was the team of junior Avery Gayler and freshman Caelyn Carpenter with a 6-0, 6-0 win.

The Chargers will be back on the courts Tuesday for another home match vs Clinton Prairie. Thursday NM will welcome county rival Crawfordsville for their first Sagamore Conference match of the season.

Mounties down Mavericks in season opener

Southmont girls tennis also got their season started on Friday after a battle with mother nature last week. The Mounties welcomed McCutcheon and were able to pick up a 3-2 season-opening win.

With every varsity player back from a year ago, the Mounties used that experience to their advantage as all three wins came from their singles spots. Hanna Long at one singles, Marley Jones at two, and Kela Johnson at three secured the match for the match for the Mounties who begin the year 1-0.

South returns to the court on Tuesday for their first county and Sagamore Conference match of the season when they welcome Crawfordsville.

Athenians notch season opening win over Knights

Crawfordsville girls tennis began their 2024 season on Friday with a trip to Lafayette Central Catholic and were able to defeat the Knights 3-1. The two singles match was unable to be completed to LCC not having lights.

CHS begins its year 1-0 and will have a busy county week. Tuesday CHS travels to Southmont and Thursday they’ll travel to North Montgomery as CHS looks to defend their county title.
