Don’t want to cook or travel too far for the Thanksgiving holiday?

Consider attending the Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday at First United Methodist Church, 212 E. Wabash Ave. It is a free event and is open to the public.

The menu includes a traditional meal of turkey, noodles, mashed potatoes, seasoned green beans, dressing, applesauce, cranberry sauce, rolls and an assortment of desserts and beverages.

The event will begin with a community worship service from noon to 12:30 p.m. at the church. Seating for the worship service begins at 11:45 a.m.

Home deliveries begin at 10:30 a.m. and transportation services start at 11:30 a.m. The meal will be served from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the church.

In the past few years, the event has served more than 1,000 meals, and organizers expect a similar crowd this year.

The event was established for no particular group or individuals, but instead to provide a time for community members to come together and share in the day.

Organizers invite Wabash College men who are unable to travel home for the holidays; parents with children visiting from a distance and are unable to accommodate the visiting families; brothers and sisters who are together after periods of separation and would enjoy time to catch-up without the hassle of food preparation and clean-up; and those who would otherwise be spending the holidays alone or those who are without the means of preparing a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
