Tox-Away Day slated for Saturday

Montgomery County residents have the opportunity to discard household hazardous waste from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Crawfordsville High School.

Tox-Away Days are collection events for Montgomery County households to properly dispose of chemicals, fluids, bulbs, batteries, tanks, medical sharps, tires, electronics, appliances and more.

Hazardous items include oil-based paint, stains and varnishes. Pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, insecticides also will be accepted.

Other acceptable items include automotive fluid, pool and spa chemicals, drain openers, cleaners, batteries and mercury containing items such as thermometers.

Large appliances will be allowed as well as electronics and computers.

Tires and televisions can be dropped off for a fee. A maximum of 12 auto tires can be dropped off. The first four tires are free and the next eight are $2 per tire. A maximum of six truck tires per household can be disposed of with the no charge for the first four and $5 for the next two. Tractor tires can be dropped off for a fee of $75 per tire. Small televisions are $20 and large televisions are $25.

Only cash or checks will be accepted for payment. Checks should be made payable to Caldwell Environmental.

Latex paints will not be accepted.

Other items not accepted are documents for shredding, heavy trash items (furniture, mattresses, construction material, etc.), traditional recyclables (bottles, cans, plastics, paper, cardboard, etc.) and alkaline batteries. Also asbestos, lab chemicals, explosives, ammunition, firearms, radioactive material or infectious material are prohibited.

Those dropping off items need to enter the parking lot at Crawfordsville High School at the entrance located on C.R. 150S.
