Concerts on the Corner at 307 S. Wabash Ave. announces its next free concert and is excited to welcome back professional organist Dr. Charles Goehring at 2:30 p.m. Sunday to Wabash Avenue Church. Thanks to the positive response to last year’s concert Goehring is bringing with him cellist Anne Duthie McCafferty and violinist Muriel Mikelsons.
Goehring has academic degrees from Geneva College, the University of Pittsburgh and additional graduate study at Westminster Choir College. He is guest organist at several Indiana churches and teaches organ and piano. Most recently Goehring provides consulting services nationally for churches in search of directors of music and coordinates a program of music for the St. Vincent Heart Center in Carmel. He looks forward to performing once again in Crawfordsville on Wabash Avenue’s antique organ.
McCafferty has performed with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic. She performed with ISO colleagues as the Spring Mill Quartet, presenting concerts in Madrid, Vienna, London and Cologne. Additional performance highlights include playing with the The Peaceful Valley Chamber Players and at the Bellingham (WA) Festival of Music. McCafferty regularly provides comfort through music at Ascension St. Vincent Heart Center.
Mikelsons, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Juilliard School of Music. As a member of the St. Louis Symphony she appeared as soloist with Leonard Slatkin conducting. In Indianapolis she is a member of the American String Trio and Lockerbie String Quartet. She was active in chamber music as a frequent artist with “Suzuki and Friends” and founded the Peaceful Valley Chamber Players in Brown County, Indiana.
A spokesperson for Concerts on the Corner at Wabash Avenue Church reminds the community the purpose of the free concerts is to spread the love of God through the joy of music. A free-will offering will go to Habitat for Humanity.
