Thomen reassigned to SWAT Team


Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter is pleased to announce the reassignment of Trooper Austin Thomen to the Special Operations Division to serve on the SWAT Team. Trooper Thomen earned this prestigious reassignment through a rigorous process that included written testing, physical testing, scenario evaluations, and a competitive interview.

Trooper Thomen, a native of Hendricks County, attended Plainfield High School, graduating in 2006. He furthered his education at Marian University, where he played football and earned a bachelor’s degree in Sports Performance in 2011. During his college years, Trooper Thomen worked for the Indiana Department of Administration and continued in that role until he joined the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in 2014.

After a distinguished 9-year tenure with the Sheriff’s Office, Trooper Thomen joined the Indiana State Police, graduating from the 83rd Indiana State Police Recruit Lateral Academy in 2022. He was initially assigned to the Lafayette Post. While at the Lafayette Post, Thomen became a controlled tactics instructor.

Trooper Thomen resides in Montgomery County with his wife, Trooper Alaina Thomen, and their two sons. Trooper Alaina Thomen is a respected 9-year veteran of the Indiana State Police.
