Drew Norman and Dara Watson were recently awarded financial scholarships from the Journal Review. Each student received $1,000 to use toward their college expenses.
Norman recently graduated in the top 15 at North Montgomery High School. While in high school he participated in football, basketball, golf and National Honor Society. He is a 10-year 4-H member and was a member of the 4-H Youth Leadership Board.
He intends to study ag business or economics at Purdue University this fall.
“I am very interested in the financial aspect of managing a business, and I believe it would be a perfect fit for me,” Norman wrote in his scholarship essay. “Since my family raises pigs and my father is a manager of several grain elevators, the agricultural industry has interested me as well.”
Norman added that the scholarship will help him cover the cost of his educational pursuits, which include seeking a master’s degree.
Watson is a recent graduate of Southmont High School, where she participated in volleyball, softball, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, BPA, FCCLA and Key Club. She also is a 10-year 4-H member.
She intends to study visual arts education this fall at
Purdue University.
“There are so many lessons to be taught in art that could be applied everywhere like creativity, confidence, problem solving and perseverance,” Watson wrote in her scholarship essay. “The reason I decided to take this path is because I would like to have an impact on the younger generations. I believe that teachers have the greatest impact and influence on their students.”
Watson added that receiving this scholarship “would mean that my hard work has paid off, especially to my friends, family, and coaches that have pushed me to be my best these past four years.”
