WARRENVILLE, Illinois — Sam Vaught placed 12th overall Friday evening to lead the Wabash College cross country team to a seventh-place finish among 19 teams at the Gil Dodds Invitational hosted by Wheaton College.
The 8,000-meter race, originally scheduled for Saturday morning, was moved to Friday evening because of weather concerns.
Vaught covered the course in 25 minutes, 51.5 seconds to lead the Little Giants. Johnathan Loney was the second Wabash runner across the finish line, placing 56th overall in 27:22.3.
Freshman Austin Baugh finished 76th overall with a time of 27:49.7. Freshman Cooper Knoblauch followed in 86th place overall, completing the 8K course in 27:59.9.
Wabash finished with 224 team points, 12 behind host Wheaton’s sixth-place total of 212. The Little Giants finished ahead of Moraine Valley Community College, which placed eighth with 238 points, and College of DuPage, ninth with 261.
The University of Chicago won the team championship with 22 points. North Central College finished second with 86 points, followed by Millikin with 117, Wisconsin-Parkside with 118 and Cornell College with 179. Cornell’s Jacob Bach won the individual title in 24:42.6.
Wabash returns to competition Oct. 3 when the Little Giants race at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic.
