Velma Louise Wright Wethington, 91, of Crawfordsville and formerly of the New Richmond community, passed away at 6:15 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2024, in Franciscan Health Hospital East, Lafayette.
She was born April 10, 1933, at Dana, Indiana, daughter of the late Robert Owen and Elva May Huffman Wright. She married Grover Cleveland Wethington on June 29, 1952, at Crawfordsville. He preceded her in death Aug. 8, 2013.
Velma was a 1951 graduate of Green Township High School in Parke County. She worked as a dispatcher for Bennett Transportation and had previously been employed by North Montgomery High School as a custodian.
She enjoyed euchre, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, word search puzzles and reading her Bible. She had enjoyed woodworking with her husband and helping her son install monument foundations in cemeteries until her health failed.
Surviving are: daughter Dianna Lynn (Bryan) Matricia of Linden: two sons, Stanley D. (LeAnne) Wethington of Crawfordsville and Russell A. (Tina) Wethington of New Richmond; 10 grandchildren, Kristie, Stacey, Brad, Stephanie, Randy, Kim, Ashley, Adam, Corey and Monica; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Wuanita; and three brothers, Herbert, Lloyd and Frances.
Visitation hours are 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 24, with funeral services following at 7 p.m. with Pastor Mike Whitacre officiating at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Family inurnment in New Richmond cemetery at a later date.
