The Crawfordsville volleyball team pushed its record to 9-0 with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-14) win over Sagamore Conference foe Lebanon on Tuesday night.

“Our goal was to keep them under 15 and we achieved that,” Crawfordsville coach Kelly Johnson said. “And that was huge. They’ve got some potential over there. They played hard.”

Crawfordsville jumped to leads of 9-1, 10-3, and 16-7 in each set, before coasting to wins.

The win gives the Athenians their first conference victory as they hope to improve upon their 4-3 mark last season.

“You just want to get that first conference win and then go from there,” Johnson added. “I knew Lebanon would be competitive. I felt like we stayed in our game and concentrated on what we do well, and good things happen when we do that.”

Macy Bruton led the Athenians with 21 kills and nine digs, while Laine Schlicher had 37 assists and a kill. Shea Williamson added eight digs, five kills and three aces, while Olivia Reed had six digs, an ace and an assist, Halle Elliott had three aces and three digs and Liddy McCarty two digs and a kill.

Alyx Bannon and Hallie Gayler anchored the front row with seven kills and two aces, and seven kills respectively.

““I though Alyx and Hallie Gayler did an awesome job. And they bring the spirit and drive up there. Our middle really shined tonight and our serving was exceptionally good with Halle Elliott hanging tough there at the end. I feel like I could name every kid because they all played well. We are very balanced,” Johnson said.

Crawfordsville will put its perfect record on the line tonight at Terre Haute North, who is 7-3 on the season.

“It’ll be good to play somebody different and play good competition,” Johnson said. “Who knows what the outcome will be, but we’ll be in there for the fight.”
