VOLLEYBALL: Hot Dogs sweep Chargers

LINDEN — The North Montgomery volleyball team dropped a Sagamore Conference match 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-13) on Tuesday evening.

The Chargers (0-2, 0-1 SAC) had early leads in each of the three sets, but struggled to piece together many scoring runs.

“A lot of our players haven’t played together,” first-year coach Whitney Hutson said. “We have a lot of girls who did’t play last year, and came out this year, so we are still trying to work out the kinks of the lineup. It’s looking better and I think within time it will get there.”

The Hot Dogs (1-2, 1-1 SAC) had runs of 4-0 and 12-1 in the first set to take a quick 1-0 lead. North Montgomery led 6-4 early in the second set, before Frankfort eventually broke a 12-12 tie and cruised to a second set win.

The Chargers once again took an early lead in the third set at 6-3, but the Hot Dogs rallied with a 16-2 run to put the set and match away.

“We’ve just got to work hard and keep working in practice and get our flow going,” Hutson says she is telling her players.

Trinity Schroeder led North Montgomery with six kills and an ace, while Madi Welch had eight digs and five kills. Mackenzie Shepherd had nine digs.

In just two matches so far this season, Hutson is already seeing improvement in the Chargers.

“It’s hustling,” she said. “I feel like we’ve had a lot more rallies and had some good hustle points.”

North Montgomery is at Danville on Thursday.
