VOLLEYBALL PREVIEW: Mustangs return core player group

The Fountain Central volleyball team returns four key players from a team that won just seven games a season ago.

“We have lots of returning, but our main four that got good time last year are Lillie Fishero, Chloe Golia, Larissa Bowers, Jerzi Hershberer,” Fountain Central coach Alyssa Larson said.

Bowers is the top hitter back with 141 kills last season, while Fishero had 90 kills and led the team with 230 assists. Hershberger had 253 digs, while Golia recorded 104 kills last season.

Larson is excited about what that group of seniors will bring to the program this fall.

“We’ve put in a lot of work to be more aggressive this season,” she said. “I am excited to see this senior group work together.”

She also said they naturally a scrappy team and have strong passing, but they will have to step up offensively this season.

“We have to find ways to be offensive and control the tempo of the game,” she said.

In total the Mustangs have eight seniors, including Maddie Medley, Hayleigh Elkins, Willow Walsh, and Kendra Earlywine.

Larson also hopes Fountain Central will compete better within the WRC.
