WAYNETOWN — A man wanted on warrants from at least three states was arrested Tuesday morning following a high-speed pursuit that began in Waynetown and ended in Attica.

Pierre Denzel Cooper, 40, was incarcerated at the Montgomery County Jail at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday on preliminary charges of three counts of resisting law enforcement, dealing in marijuana, possession of marijuana, driving while suspended, possession of a fictitious/suspended/altered driver’s license, reckless driving and outstanding warrants from Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin.

Waynetown Town Marshal Kyle Proctor said the incident began in Waynetown when two people complained of road rage against each other. Waynetown Officer Bob Heisel responded to the call and noticed an odor of marijuana coming from Cooper’s vehicle. Cooper then fled the scene in his vehicle causing Heisel to pursue him.

Cooper fled north on State Road 25 to westbound Interstate 74, where speeds on the interstate reached 130 miles per hour. Cooper’s vehicle then exited the interstate at Veedersburg and began travel-ing north on U.S. 41. Speeds on U.S. 41 reached 105 miles per hour.

Officers from Fountain and Warren counties deployed stop sticks at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Old State Road 55, south of Attica. Cooper’s vehicle struck the stop sticks but he continued for a few miles into Attica. He was met there by additional officers who were able to box in his vehicle in front of Wolfe’s Candies. Police detained Cooper and transported him to the Montgomery County Jail.

Police discovered just over a pound of marijuana in Cooper’s vehicle that was packaged for distribu-tion.

Cooper is believed to be an Illinois resident who was visiting a friend in Crawfordsville.

Proctor added that Cooper served eight years in prison in Wisconsin and was released in 2019. He said Cooper may face additional charges here and in the other jurisdictions where he is wanted.

Troopers from the Indiana State Police also assisted in the incident and Froedge’s Inc. impounded Cooper’s vehicle.
