Crawfordsville boys soccer made the trip to Frankfort on Saturday looking to defend their 2021 Frankfort Invite title as the tournament was canceled last year due to rain. The four-team tournament included CHS, the host Hot Dogs, Rossville, and Lapel. Cville took on Lapel in game one and were winners 9-0 before falling in the championship game to the Hot Dogs by a narrow score of 2-1.

On the day Kevin Puerto scored four goals for the Athenians with the other six  coming from six different players. Cville is 2-1 on the season and will be back on the pitch Tuesday when they host Greencastle.

Chargers fall to Wildcats

Girls Soccer

CHARGERS SNAG 1ST WIN

North Montgomery girls soccer also took on South Vermillion on the road Saturday. The Chargers were able to come away with their first win of the season in a 3-1 win. Taylor Hudson scored a pair of goals for the Chargers and Courtney Bennett added one. Bennett also added an assist with assists also coming from Kayla Hoffman and Ava Nunan. Goalie Ella Smith had six saves in goal.

“We played much better in all aspects of our game today,” Charger coach Julie Hodges said.  “We are young. We told the girls to expect growing pains as we figure out a new system, new players, and new positions. As long as we take steps forward everyday, even if they are baby steps, then we are headed in the right direction. Our defense was able to keep their shape much better and close the gaps, only allowing seven shots on goal. Our midfield controlled possession. And our offense found the gaps and was able to create getting 30 shots. We still have a lot of areas we need to improve on, but today was a step in the right direction and a total team effort.”

The Chargers will be back in action on Monday for their first Sagamore Conference game when they travel to take on Danville.

Mounties fall to ranked bulldogs

Southmont girls soccer took on arguably one of the toughest teams on their 2023 schedule on Saturday when the Mounties traveled to take on the 14th ranked Monrovia Bulldogs and fell by a final score of 10-1. It was the first loss of the season for the Mounties as they fall to 2-1 on the year.

They return to action on Tuesday for another road game when they travel to take on Lebanon in Sagamore Conference action.
