Mountie wrestlers wrap up regular season at Culver Academy

Southmont wrestling traveled to compete in the annual Culver Academy Invite on Saturday to wrap up the regular season. The Individual tournament saw the Mounties have plenty of success. Cooper Scott went 5-0 at 106 pounds, Brier Riggle 3-0 at 120, Camden Laney 2-1 at 126, Jeffrey Pine 3-0 at 132, Maddox Cade 3-0 and 138, James Elliot 2-1 at 144, Marlin Williams 3-0 at 150, Hunter Alesi 3-0 at 157, Gavynn Hayes 3-0 at 165, Max Musick 2-1 at 175, Tyler Davis 3-0 at 190, Wyatt Woodall 3-0 at 215, and Ayden Dickerson 3-0 at 285.

The Mounties junior high team also competed in their opening tournament of the season at the Parke Heritage Invite and captured the team title.

South will now take the week to get ready for the sectional on Saturday at Crawfordsville.

Athenians and Chargers take Athenian Invite titles

The Crawfordsville boys and North Montgomery girls swimming teams continued their great seasons on Saturday. CHS hosted its annual Athenian Invite.

The CHS boys took the top spot with 561 points to win the title over Lafayette Jeff who placed second with 454. CHS went 1-2 in the 200 medley relay, Adriana Medina won the 200 freestyle and 100 back, Whitman Horton won both the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Horton set pool record in the 100 fly with a time of 50.38. CHS also won the 200 free relay, went 1, 2 and 4 in the breaststroke with Ryan Miller winning the event, Shawn Ewoldt taking second and Henry Hoar fourth.

The North Montgomery girls scored 497 points and held off Lafayette Jeff (486) for the title. Crawfordsville took third with 456 points. CHS wont the 200 medley relay with the Chargers taking second. North’s Annabel Anderson cruised to first in the 200 free with Katelyln Wooline finishing second,  CHS took the top four spots in the 50 freestyle with Maesa Horton, Guinevere Schmitzer-Torbert, Marie Hesler, and Sophia Melevage finishing 1-4.. In the 100 free it was the top five spots for CHS as Ellie Walker and Katherine Novak joined GST, Hesler and Melevage. North’s Dusty Robinson took first in the 500 free, while CHS and North went 1-2 in the 200 free relay. Anderson won the 100 breaststroke while the Chargers rounded out the day by winning the 400 free relay.
