William “Bill” Ray Richardson III, 72, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Jan. 11, 2024, at Ascension Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis. 

Bill was born March 6, 1951, at South Charleston, West Virginia, to William Jr. and Doris (Hensley) Richardson. He married Virginia “Jenny” Lauderman on April 22, 2003, at Paragon, Indiana. 

Bill graduated from South Charleston High School and attended West Virginia Tech.  He was a process tech and part of the fire response team at Eli Lily in Lafayette for 36 years, retiring in 2005. After retirement, Bill started “Bent Nail Restoration” with Curtis Brouwer from 2018 until 2020. He currently worked at Walmart in Crawfordsville, with the online pickup team. 

Bill was an Eagle Scout in high school. He loved spending time outdoors, gardening, fishing, hiking and camping. Bill was fascinated with trains, collecting memorabilia and parts. He loved eating peanuts and always had a pocketful of peanuts, ready for a snack.

Bill is survived by his wife, Jenny Richardson of Crawfordsville; four children, Yvette Worthington (Chris) of Fort Myers, Florida, Anita Richardson (Charles) of Ladoga, Anthony “Tony” Byrum (Rachel) of Greencastle and Dalene VanBibber (Ryan) of Crawfordsville; nine grandchildren, Payton and Hunter Worthington, Raymond and Adelaide Wachtstetter, Ava and Noah Byrum and Cameron, Bentley and Chloe Mae VanBibber; two great-grandchildren; and sister LeaAnn Lersch (Bob) of West Virginia.  He was predeceased by his parents; Grandma and Grandpa Hensley; and daughter Sue Ann Byrum. 

Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 15 at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville, from 4 p.m. until the time of the service at 6 p.m. with Pastor Charles Tinsley officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
