Wilma D. Lewellyn, 85, of New Richmond passed awa early Monday morning, Jan. 29, 2024, in her home.

She was born Nov. 20, 1938, at Remington, daughter of the late Diedrich and Anna Peterson Ubbinga. She married Jack Lewellyn Feb. 17, 1963, at Remington. He survives.

Wilma graduated from Gilboa School near Remington in Jasper County. She retired as Postmaster of the New Richmond Post Office. She was a member of Youngs Chapel Church. She loved the Lord, her family and softball. Wilma was an avid softball player. She played from 1956 until the Covid pandemic, took two years off and played the 2023 season on the Evergreen Nursery team. Like many other New Richmond residents, she was proud to have appeared in the movie “Hoosiers.” She was also a big fan of the Pacers and Purdue Men’s Basketball.

Surviving, along with her husband Jack, are daughter Libby (Brad) Neibert of New Richmond; son Chris (Candy) Lewellyn of New Richmond; granddaughters, Mara (John) Irons and Maddie Lewellyn; and sisters, Tini (Joe) Dunbar and Anna Boettcher, both of Lafayette.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Betty Longest and Frances Janssen, and brother Paul Janssen.

Visitation hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, with funeral services following at 2 p.m., with Pastor Gary Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in New Richmond Cemetery. Wilma’s family invite attendees to wear their favorite sports jerseys to the services.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Indiana Special Olympics, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
