Winter reading programs: Something for everyone at CDPL

Posted

During the cold days of January (and a few in December) you can read at home and earn prizes with one of our winter reading programs at the Crawfordsville District Public Library. Registration for all programs begins on Monday, Dec. 27.

Starting with our patrons ages 10 and under, children will read a specific amount of time for each item listed on a coloring page. Once the completed picture is returned to the library, we will transform it into a plastic mug. Participants will also receive a book to keep. Each child will then be asked to make a paper snowflake (paper provided) and will receive another prize once the snowflake is finished and returned to the library. After completing the picture and the snowflake, children may earn tickets for a weekly drawing through Jan. 31.

For our tween and teen patrons (ages 11-18), the theme for this winter program comes from the online game Among Us. Students will receive tickets for finishing tasks on a game board to place in the box in the Youth Services Department for grand prize drawings.

Attention all adult patrons (ages 19 and older): we’re announcing our coziest winter reading program yet — A Midwinter Night’s Read. We love the rhythm and rhyme of taking things a bit more slowly in the wintertime, so readers can expect our winter program to be more reflective than the one in summer. This year, we’re challenging adults to tackle a reading bingo board and to try titles outside of their comfort zone. For readers who aren’t sure where to start with finding books that fulfill the various challenges, no worries — we will provide reading list suggestions. All adults who complete partial bingo cards will receive a gift and anyone who blacks out a card will be entered into our grand prize drawings for gift cards and other goodies.

Adults can track their progress and complete challenges by registering at http://cdpl.readsquared.com/ (you can also find the link on our website). For those who prefer a paper bingo card, drop by the reference desk on the second floor of the library beginning Monday.

Cozy up to the library this winter and take advantage of the chance to expand your reading horizons while winning prizes. We hope to see you soon as we embark on a winter reading adventure together.
