Congratulations to Baby Boy Crow and Navey Covault — the two Leap Year babies born at Witham Health Services, Lebanon.

Izzabelle Crow from Frankfort surprised the obstetrics/maternity staff at Witham with an early delivery.

“We weren’t sure if we were going to have a Leap Year baby this year,” said MaryBeth Searles, director of marketing at Witham Health Services.

Baby Boy Crow was not due until March 5, but decided to make his entrance at noon Thursday, weighing 6 lbs. 13 oz. and was 21 inches long. He is welcomed home by two sisters and two brothers. His mother is unsure what day he will celebrate his birthday because just a few hours earlier his cousin was born in Lafayette. They may decide to celebrate birthdays together each year.

Megan and Lucas Covault of Crawfordsville watched their due date of Feb. 25 come and go as they anticipated the arrival of their baby. Finally, at 9:18 p.m. Thursday their first child, a girl, was born weighing 8 lbs. 5 oz. and was 19 1/s inches long. Navey will celebrate her birthday two days in a row each year, on Feb. 28 and March 1 and then every four years she will celebrate three days in a row, Feb. 28, Feb. 29 and March 1, said her parents.

Bay Boy Crow and Navey beat the odds and joined the ranks of babies born on this date also known as “leapers” or “leap lings,” who celebrate their actual birthday every four years. Witham’s obstetrics wing has been open since 2003 and has had eight “leapers” before this year. One born in 2008, two in 2012, four in 2016 and one in 2020. The babies were presented onesies donated by Crossroads Imprints of Lebanon and the mothers were given 40 oz. Witham stainless steel mugs.
