Kindergarten students in Jessica Hanson’s kindergarten class at Turkey Run Elementary School are building their at-home library. “I have always had a passion for encouraging a love of reading in everyone around me,” Hanson. said. “Over the summer, I asked for sponsors to help every student in our class receive their very own copy of some awesome books throughout the school year.” Their September book of the month is “There was an Old Lady that Swallowed some Leaves.” “We have a very cool bulletin board in our Kindergarten hallway that Ms. Lindsay Garner did last year. It features many of the “Old Lady” books from the series. I was definitely inspired by that in our first book choice,” Hanson said. Students have been encouraged to put these books in a special place, have someone read to them and use them to practice reading.
