The Mustangs are 1-0 (1-0 WRC) to begin the year and will be back in action this evening for another big WRC showdown as they travel to Parke Heritage.

Golf

Ryker notches first win on the links for Charger Golf

Bob Ryker got his coaching career started off with a victory on the links as North Montgomery traveled to Seeger for their season opener. The Chargers battled through a slow start, but in the end came away with a 197-212 win over the Patriots.

The Chargers will look to make it two straight wins as they are scheduled to host Fountain Central on Wednesday (weather permitting).

Baseball

Mountie baseball falls in another close game

Southmont baseball continues to compete in close games but just can’t break through into the win column as the Mounties fell 5-4  Monday at Seeger.

Two of their three losses this season have come by just a single run. Carter Hubble settled into the game for the Mounties to throw a complete game.

The Mounties fall to 0-3 with the loss and will be back in action this evening as they travel to Tri-West to open up Sagamore Conference play.

Softball

Chargers cant rally past Bulldogs in late innings

Progress is being made for North Montgomery softball. The Chargers fell 13-8 against Clinton Central on Monday but it wasn’t without a late inning rally.

Trailing 10-0 in the fourth inning the Chargers scored seven runs to get right back in the game. The Bulldogs would then extend their lead with two in the fifth and one in the sixth to make the score 13-7.

North Montgomery didn’t go down quietly however as they would load the bases and have nobody out in their final frame but could only scratch across a single run.

Piper Ramey and Cascie Keller each had a pair of hits for the Chargers and Blair Nichols drove in a pair. Ramey took the loss on the mound for the Chargers giving up 11 hits and six earned runs. The freshman walked just one while striking out eight.

The Chargers fall to 0-3 and will open up Sagamore Conference play this evening as they travel to Western Boone.

Athenians fall to Red Devils

The Crawfordsville Athenian offense showed signs of life on Monday against West Lafayette, but it was a case of too little, too late as CHS fell 15-5 in five innings.

Brooklyn Mills for the second consecutive game hit a home run for the Athenians as part of a five run third inning. The Athenians tallied six total hits with Olivie Reed, Celeste Moore, Laine Schlicher, Bailey Crane, Briley Dillon and Mills are picking up a single hit.

“I’m really proud of them and we talk about this all the time that there is no quit in this team,” Crawfordsville coach Brad Clark said. “They’re willing to fight till the very end and that mindset will serve them well in life. After getting down 9-0 it was 6-5 the rest of the way. I told them after the game that we have to just find a way to start quicker.”

The Red Devils were led at the plate by freshman Bree Johnson who went 3-4 with eight total RBI’s in the win including a three-run home run.

Crawfordsville falls to 0-5 on the season and will be on the road at Danville this evening for a Sagamore Conference double-header against Danville.
