9-15 Roundup: Mustang tennis clinches WRC Title

Athenians take care of shorthanded Eagles

Crawfordsville hosted South Putnam on Thursday and picked up another victory on the season as they quickly took down the Eagles 5-0. CHS got forfeit wins at three singles and two doubles as the Eagles didn’t have enough players to fill those spots.

With that Crawfordsville coach Craig Brainard made a small lineup change and moved Wyatt Motz to one singles and Rowan Gambrel to two singles as James Murphy got the night off. Jude Hutchison and Jude Coursey notched the third and final win for the Athenians at one doubles.

CHS ends the week with a 3-0 record and will return to the courts on Monday when they travel to take on West Lafayette.

Mustangs clinch WRC title with sweep of Red Ramblers

Fountain Central tennis may be young, but that hasn’t stopped them from seeing success. Thursday the Mustangs hosted Attica looking to clinch the WRC regular season title. FC made quick work of the Red Ramblers and came away with a 5-0 win as the Mustangs celebrated by capturing the conference crown.

Skyler Hoagland notched a 6-0, 6-0 win at one singles with Gabe McCollum also winning 6-0, 6-0 at two singles. Senior Ethan Mellady was victorious at three singles 6-0, 6-1.

At one doubles Lukas Miller and Koby Wolf were winners 6-1, 6-1 and Wes Jackson and Brayden Prickett rounded out the wins for the Mustangs with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at two doubles.

FC improves to a very impressive 10-1 on the season and will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Western Boone.

Chargers fall on road to the Patriots

North Montgomery made the trip on Thursday to battle with Seeger and dropped the match against the Patriots 4-1. 

The lone Charger win came at two doubles as the team of Haze Kashon and Nate McCoy defeatd Kyle Swank and Ephraim Stoner 6-0, 6-0. 

The Chargers will be back on the courts on Monday when thye travel to Western Boone for a SAC match.

Mounties unable to hang with tough Bruins

Taking on one of the best teams in the Sagamore Conference on Thursday in Tri-West, Southmont was unable to contain the high-octane Bruins offense and surrendured eight goals a SAC loss.

The Mounties fall to 2-8 (1-4 SAC) on the season and will be back on the pitch on Saturday when they take on Benton Central in girl/boy double-header at Southmont.

North Montgomery hosted Sagamore Conference foe Lebanon on Thursday and was bested by the Tigers 8-0.

The Chargers fall to 2-9 (0-5 SAC) on the season. They will be back in action again at home on Monday when they host another SAC power in Tri-West.

Girls Soccer

Chargers drop SAC contest vs Hot Dogs

Making the ever long trip to Frankfort on Thursday, North Montgomey girls soccer looked to pick up a SAC win. However the Hot Dogs set the tone early and controlled the game to defeat the visiting Chargers by a final of 4-1.

Teegan Bacon had the lone Charger goal as she picked up her 24th goal on the season and 92 of her career as inches closer to the illustrious 100 goal mark.

Bacon after last night also ranks tied for sixth in the state in goals scored.

North Montgomery returns home on Saturday with girl/boy double as the Chargers will square off with Bethesda Christian.

Volleyball

Mustangs battle tough Trojans

Fountain Central came out on Thursday against Covington not afraid of the challenge that faced them. The first set FC went toe-to-toe with the Trojans before falling 25-18. Covington went on to secure the next two sets 25-8 and 25-4 to pick up the sweep.

Fountain Central is back in action on Monday when they host Frankfort.
