The Montgomery County Free Clinic raised more money than ever before at its Dining with the Chefs fundraising event at Wabash College on Aug. 8.
As many as 360 guests dined on an excellent Greek inspired meal prepared by local chefs Lali Hess and Brittany Terry (The Juniper Spoon), Patrick Matthews (Wabash College), Levi Kinney (Bóveda) and Raylee Carpenter (Miss Sugar Ray Chocolatier).
Guests participated in both a silent and live auction, and raised an unprecedented $117,000 in support of free healthcare and vital services for those in need in Montgomery County.
The clinic would like to thank the local businesses that were its major sponsors this year: Women’s Health Specialists/Joshi Pediatrics, Acuity Brands Lighting, C&F Fabricating, Franciscan Health Crawfordsville, Campbell Ag Service, Wabash College and The Juniper Spoon.
Organizers also thanked, once again, its master-of-ceremonies, Jim Amidon, for his energy, charm and commitment to the clinic’s work.
A highlight of the evening were two awards presented to local volunteers. John and Sandy Tidd received the Meals on Wheels Volunteers of the Year Award. The Tidds devoted their careers to educating students in Crawfordsville, and after retiring in 2007 faithfully volunteered for the next 18 years delivering meals, friendship and compassion to their neighbors.
Jacob Moore of Crawfordsville received the Montgomery County Free Clinic Leadership Award. Moore, a North Montgomery High School, Wabash College and IU Law School graduate, served on the board and as attorney for the MCFC from 2020-26. He provided thoughtful legal guidance and support through a time of significant growth and change for the clinic. His gifts of time, talent and treasure in support of the clinic’s mission is deeply appreciated.
The clinic provides free healthcare to the more than 5,000 Montgomery County residents who do not currently have health insurance, especially to women and children in need, and delivers 1,200 meals per month to Meals on Wheels clients. While Dining with the Chefs is the clinic’s major fundraiser, organizers appreciate the public’s continued support throughout the year for neighbors in need.
