NEW MARKET — Crawfordsville’s Hunter Hutchison and Southmont’s Faith Allen continued their dominate season at the Sagamore Conference meet on Saturday at the Sagamore Conference meet at Southmont. The Athenians’ Shelby Greene and Halle Smith, and North Montgomery’s Elijah McCartney joined them on first-team all conference.

Hutchison was sixth with a time of 17:50 in the boys’ race.

“Individually I felt like they had good runs on a tough course and that’s what we needed them to do,” Crawfordsville coach Megan Craig said.

Allen placed second in the girls’ race behind Western Boone’s Audrey Knoper with a time of 19:31.

“She (Faith) did a really good job pacing with her at the start,” Southmont coach Shelley Allen said. “Audrey set a wicked pace. That first mile they were about 5:38. She’s less tired because we are a week into the taper and next week will be two weeks into the taper.”

McCartney, a junior, placed ninth in a time of 19:54.

“He did a great job and did exactly what he set out to do,” North Montgomery coach Cassie Hicks said. “He stayed up there with the front runners. There was some boxing in, but he held tight and made sure to kick it in at the end to reach that goal.”

Greene placed 10th in a time of 22:07, while Greene was 11th in 22:18.

In the team races, Lebanon won its first boys’ title since 1980 with 35 points, while Western Boone took the girls’ title with 31 points. Crawfordsville was third on the girls’ side with 66 points, while the Athenians were fourth in the boys’ race with 78. Southmont was fifth with 138 points.

“I feel like the girls that pack run together are going to have to push out of their comfort zone earlier,” Craig said about the upcoming sectional meet. “They’re letting the lead get ahead of them a little too much and trying to make up time too late in the race.”

Elyse Widmer placed 15th for the Athenians in 22:42, while Gabrielle Warren was 20th in 23:06, Skylah Strawser 23rd in 23:25, and Olivia Biddle 26th in 23:53. Olivia Fichter was 35th in 28:09.

Freshman Ryan Miller was 14th overall for the Athenians’ in the boys race with a time of 18:36, while Ian Hensley was 19th in 19:14. Arthur Ruano placed 22nd in 19:34, Nathanial Million was 23rd in 19:41, Roman Contreras 24th in 19:45, and Peter Kearns was 25th in 19:50.
