Alumni talent show moving forward

The Crawfordsville High School Alumni Association’s “MoCo’s Got Talent for Scholorships” talent show is on track for its Feb. 8 return in the Crawfordsville High School auditorum.

The committee recently met to go over the applications and finalize plans for this second year event including selection of the judges. At the present time 16 acts will take the stage to entertain the crowd and compete for the top three prize money winners. The goal of the show is to help raise money for scholorships for CHS seniors as they leave to continue their education at the next level.

“Due to changing times, we’ve had to refocus are efforts in fundraising,” said S. David Long, alumni president. “The annual alumni dinner that had been a staple for years was just not as popular as it once was. Social media allows people to be connected more than ever and many classes have instead come to favor individual class gatherings at various times throught the year. We’d like for classes to consider taking up donations when they meet.”

After brainstorming several ideas, the committee felt a talent show would be a good way to involve the whole community, not just CHS students and alumni. Last year’s show was a success. The talent show is open to all Montgomery County residents, 8 years of age and older. Last year showcased a variety of acts, including vocals, piano, violin, harp and even an ariel performance.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Admission is a $5 (or more) donation at the door. Last year’s hit, homemade cookies, will again be availabe for sale as well as a 50/50 drawing. Any class or individual making a donation prior to Feb. 6 will have ther name included in the program.
