Gym preps for grand opening Sept. 1

One of the country’s fastest growing health clubs is gearing up for an opening in Crawfordsville.

Anytime Fitness, a worldwide health and fitness center, is open for presales for those looking to purchase a gym membership ahead of its grand opening Sept. 1.

Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, the company has locations on all six continents (including a fitness center on an Antarctic cruise liner, putting Anytime Fitness on all seven continents), with its newest coming in the city’s Eastside Shopping Plaza on Darlington Avenue.

“I’ve had a pretty good number (of presales) so far,” Facility Manager Diane Cooper said. “Even though there are gyms here already, there really aren’t any that compete with what we do. Some of them have a lot of classes, or don’t have classes at all, or don’t have the same mixture we have.”

Cooper instead likened Anytime Fitness to more of a training facility, offering a wide variety of services and equipment that go beyond standard levels.

“Almost everybody who’s a member gets training at some point,” she said. “So most of our packages include that, either as 1-on-1, small team or small groups. We also have classes.”

Virtual classes are also offered at the facility. Instead of following an instructor online, trainers will record their exercises and have them available whenever the member can make it into the gym — whether it is 1 p.m. or 1 a.m.

“We have a kiosk and they just choose a class they want, and a screen will drop down in the studio, and they can do the class by themselves,” Cooper said. “I think it makes it way more convenient for people, because we are truly 24/7.”

The 7,000-square-foot facility on Darlington Avenue offers services and equipment fit for members of all levels and just about every type of equipment, free weight and barbell available.

The goal, Cooper said, is to meet the needs of every member.

“It should be like, ‘Anytime, Anyone, Anywhere’ Fitness,” Cooper said. “I have had a lot of feedback that people who belong to some other gyms maybe have outgrown it. There’s nowhere they can go from there because they don’t have more free weights or they true free weights. The goal is to just to be able to be a good fit for anybody, no matter what level you’re at.

“I just had somebody sign up — I think she said she was a power lifter,” she added. “And a couple of guys who said they’ve done body building before.”

The same is true for beginners and those who may be higher in age who are looking to enter the gym for the first time.

“If you need help because you just don’t know what to do, you’ve never been in a gym before, it’s also for you,” Cooper said. “There’s lots of help and lots of things to do.”

Cooper added that instructors are currently sought for yoga, palates, spin and Zumba classes.

“I just had somebody interest in doing some dance-fitness classes for us, so we’re excited about dance fitness classes — they’re fun and energetic,” Cooper said. “And any other instructors that do something interesting, I’m open to hearing about it and the things they do so we could add that to our repertoire as well.”

Anytime Fitness is located at 1430 Darlington Ave. Those interested in presale gym memberships may visit the center or call 765-307-5552 for more information.
