Treat and thrill seekers alike will hit the streets Saturday for a Halloween trick-or-treat season unlike any other.
In the midst of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, many towns and organizations are going ahead with their annual Halloween plans while following strict guidelines to keep everyone safe this Saturday.
Some towns have been forced to scale back traditional gatherings, such as dinners and potlucks, but outdoor trick-or-treating is still a go in many locations in and around Montgomery County.
Those who do not wish to participate should leave their porch lights turned off. Those participating are urged to provide individually wrapped items for trick-or-treaters, rather than allowing children to reach into a common container.
Social distancing and regular sanitation are stressed by officials at all locations, including:
• Crawfordsville: Main Street west of Grant Avenue will be closed from 5-8 p.m. Saturday for trick-or-treating. More than 2,000 children regularly descend on the street each year. Additional events include: Kroger Trunk or Treat, 6-9 p.m. Kroger back parking lot, games, candy, contests anr more; trick-or-treating at Christ’s United Methodist Church, 909 E Main St., 5-8 p.m. Saturday.
• Darlington: Trick-or-treating, 5-8 p.m. Saturday. Additional events include: Trunk-or-Treat, Rocky Ridge Golf Course, 3-5 p.m.; soup for trick-or-treaters, Darlington Congregational Christian Church, 5-8 p.m.; and costume contest, Darlington American Legion, 5-8 p.m.
• Waynetown: Trick-or-treating, 5-8 p.m. Saturday. A strict curfew of 9 p.m. for youth will be imposed. Additional events include: Waynetown Volunteer Fire, food available, 5-8 p.m.; Waynetown Police patrol with candy, 5-8 p.m.; Waynetown Christian Church, trunk-or-treat, 5-8 p.m.; and Waynetown United Methodist, trunk-or-treat, 5-8 p.m.
• Waveland: Trick-or-treating, 5-8 p.m. Saturday. Additional events include: Waveland Strong, food and prizes at Waveland Town Park, 5-8 p.m.; Lake Waveland Park, chili cookoff, 5-8 p.m.; and Waveland Christians In Action, trunk-or-treat Sunday, Nov. 1, 5-7 p.m.
• New Ross: New Hope Christian, trunk-or-treat, 6-8 p.m. Friday; and New Ross UMC, trick-or-treating, 5-8 p.m. Saturday.
• Linden: Madison Township Volunteer Fire, candy giveaway, rain or shine, 6-8 p.m. Saturday.
• Veedersburg: Trick-or-treating, 6-8 p.m.; and Sterling Christian Church, trunk-or-treat, 5-7 p.m. Saturday.
• Hillsboro: Trick-or-treating, 5-8 p.m. Saturday; and Hillsboro UMC, trunk-or-treat, 5-8 p.m.
• Covington: Trick-or-treating, 6-8 p.m. Saturday; Covington City Park Ghost Walk, 5-6:30 p.m., free ham, beans and fried potatoes, 4-7 p.m. and Haunted Trailz, 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.
• Roachdale: Trick-or-treating, 6-8 p.m. Saturday; Roachdale Christian, trunk-or-treat, 6-8 p.m.; and Halloween Parade beginning at the Community Center, 8:30 p.m.
• Other trick-or-treat hours Saturday: Ladoga, 6-8 p.m.; New Market, 6-8 p.m.; and New Richmond, 6-8:30 p.m.
