Crawfordsville’s volleyball team never blinked and never looked back in a quick 3-0 win over North Vermillion.

The 25-5, 25-8, 25-7 match was over before the concession folks could sell all the popcorn, as the Athenians move to 10-2 on the season with the win.

Spreading stats across the lineup, C’ville sets up for a big road challenge Thursday against West Lafayette, and a match next week against Central Catholic.

“We stayed in our game, took care of things on our side of the net,” Athenians coach Kelly Johnson said. “After three tough matches last week, we took the weekend off and we came in focused tonight and stayed focused.”

There were minimal mistakes as the home squad started strong and stayed so in each set.

There were several long scoring streaks, starting with 13-0 to open the match on the serve of Elyse Widmer.

The senior, who finished with four aces and five digs, also had a 5-0 run in the last set.

Macy Bruton nearly finished the first set, getting eight in a row.

Bruton was also her regular self at the net, with 20 kills to give her 228 on the season. She added three aces and a pair of digs.

Libero Halle Elliott went to serve with her team up 2-1 in the second, and stayed behind the line until it was 14-1. She had eight digs and two assists, plus had a 9-0 run in the third.

Hallie Gayler was a force in front, as the senior had nine kills and two blocks.

Jessica Tribble’s 29 assists give her 340 for the season, while Devan Johnson came off the bench to add three kills.

Kaydence Brost had two kills of her own, Brooklyn Mills also had a kill, and Samantha Rohr added one dig.

The Falcons, who fall to 1-6 on the season, were led by sophomore Addie Burns with two kills and two blocks. Olivia Pearman had a pair of blocks.

“It was good to take a couple days off,” Johnson said. “We have a couple bumps and bruises that needed a little time off. Tonight was a good start towards the Westside match, which will be a real challenge. They (the Red Devils) are always tough, especially at home.”

The Red Devils were 8-1 going into their match last night at Benton Central. The Monday match with Central Catholic is also in Lafayette.
