With the completion of spring sports, Crawfordsville is the Montgomery County All-Sports Chase Trophy champion for the third consecutive year. The Athenians accumulated 53 points, Southmont 41 points and North Montgomery 31 points and will retain the Chase traveling trophy for another school year.
During spring sports season, Crawfordsville won county championships in girls tennis, girls track and field and boys golf. North Montgomery athletes were crowned county champs in baseball and boys track and field. Southmont claimed the softball championship.
For the school year, Crawfordsville won county championships in 11 sports. The Athenians’ championships included boys tennis, girls soccer, boys soccer, volleyball, boys basketball, boys swimming, girls swimming, girls wrestling, girls tennis, girls track and field and boys golf.
Southmont championships for the past school year were won in girls golf, boys cross country, girls cross country, football, girls basketball, boys wrestling and softball.
North Montgomery won county championships in gymnastics, boys track and field and baseball.
The Chargers were runner-ups in 10 sports and Southmont claimed six second-place finishes. Crawfordsville earned four runner-up finishes.
The school that claims the most points in head-to-head competition between Montgomery County schools earns the right to the traveling Chase Championship trophy.
Since the Journal Review began the Chase in the 2015-16 school year, Southmont has won four years and Crawfordsville has won three times. North Montgomery won the Chase the first three years for their total of three. No Chase winner was awarded for the year of the Covid pandemic.
