Athenians take FC Grand Prix title

The Crawfordsville girls’ cross country team raced to victory at the Fountain Central Grand Prix on Saturday with 43 points — edging second-place Seeger (46).

Freshman Sophia Melevage led the Athenians with a third-place finish in 20:42, while Shelby Greene was 10th in 22:25 and Elyse Widmer 12th in 22:43.

Karla Fernandez placed 15th in 23:12 and Olivia Biddle 17th in 23:25. Skylah Strawser was 25th in 23:51 and Gabby Warren 3rd in 25:56.

Southmont junior Faith Allen placed second in 20:12, while Fountain Central’s Brailey Hoagland was fourth in 20:42 and Claire Bonwell led North Montgomery with a 21st-placed inish in 23:36.

The Mounties placed fourth as a team with 118 points. Heaven Smith placed 32nd in 25:49, Grace Simpson 37th in 26:59. Kylee Reeves 43rd in 30:17, Tiffany Dittmer 45th in 30:52 and Tomo Greiner 46th in 31:02. 

North Montgomery’s Gabby Lucas placed 38th in 27:05, while Nichole Hoffman was 54th in 33:17.

Fountain Central’s Hadlee McBride placed 14th in 23:11.

On the boys’ side, Crawfordsville (61) was second behind Perry Meridian (24).

Sophomore Ryan Miller led the Athenians with a fourth-place finish in 17:16, while freshman Max Brumett was 11th in 18:06. Tyson Fuller placed 17th in 18:35, Ian Hensley 18th in 18:44 and Roman Contreras 19th in 18:46. Hutton Haas placed 22nd in 18:59.

North Montgomery was fourth as a team with 115 points.

Tim Lueking led the Chargers with an eighth-place finish in 17:54, while Elijah McCartney was 13th in 18:17, and Paul Lueking was 21st in 18:56. Jack Rogers placed 38th in 21:19, Nolan Yarger 42nd in 21:45, and Wil Campbell 44th in 21:55.

Southmont placed sixth with 138 points.

Aaron Evans led the Mounties with a 14th-place finish in 18:19, while Hunter Alesi was 26th in 19:41, Brett Keller 31st in 20:29, and Skyler Wood 33rd in 20:41. Clay Allen placed 41st in 21:26.

Hayden Kler led Fountain Central with a 10th-place finish in 18:04.
