Crawfordsville’s young golf team has progressed all season. On Thursday, they won the Montgomery County Championship proving first-year coach David Pierce has his squad headed in the right direction.
Crawfordsville’s team consists of one senior, Colton Custer, and has grown as players, but according to Pierce there is something else that fuels the team.
“We have really good team chemistry,” Pierce said. “The guys enjoy spending a lot of time together. Because of that, they don’t mind grinding in practice. In their eyes, it isn’t practice, it’s more time together.”
Crawfordsville’s championship score was 315. Southmont placed second carding a 326 followed by North Montgomery’s 342.
Individual Athenian scores were Caiden Murry 74, Jude Hurt 75, Colton Custer 79 and Kent Calvert 87.
Southmont’s Austin Foley was meet medalist. The St.-Mary-of-the-Woods College bound golfer shot a 70. Foley accomplished the medalist designation for the second straight year.
Other Mountie scores were Ethan Hutchinson 83, Carter Ludlow 85, Carson Vaught 88 and Hunter Thompson 98.
North Montgomery scores were Brody Roche 81, Isaac Hamby 82, Jackson Grundy 89 and Hayden Allen 90.
