Board opens bids for park projects

Three companies submitted bids for two park improvement projects within the city.

On Wednesday, the Board of Public Works and Safety opened bids for Lincoln Park, which is located on East Wabash Avenue, and the Brickyard Nature Park, which will be the city’s newest park located on the north side.

For work at Lincoln Park, bids were opened from Spencer Construction of Lafayette in the amount of $282,240; All American Construction and Hauling of Indianapolis in the amount of $460,000; and Morphey Construction of Indianapolis in the amount of $940,000.

For work at Brickyard Nature Park, All American bid $430,000; Morphey bid $880,000; and Spencer bid $1,280,000.

The board tabled the bids for review.

In other business, the board:

• Approved a request from Paul Barajas from China Inn to close Green Street from Pike to Main streets for Groovin on Green on Saturday. The closure will be from noon to midnight. The event will take place 4-10 p.m.

• Approved an agreement with Midwestern Engineers for design services related to proposed improvements at the high school lift station. The total cost is not to exceed $123,500.

• Approved a service agreement in the amount of $21,200 between the city and GreenCycle of Indiana Inc. for upkeep at the yard waste site. • Entered into an agreement with CivicPlus for website design, hosting and security. Mayor Todd Barton said the last overhaul to the city’s website was about a decade ago. The contract will cost $28,786 the first year and thereafter $10,324 annually.

• Approve agreements for appraisal services with Real Estate Valuations in the amount of $1,500; and Don R. Scheidt Co. Inc. in the amount of $2,500. The appraisals are for five properties along Wayne Avenue that are at risk due to the erosion of Sugar Creek.

• Entered into a contract that is not to exceed $10,000 with OW Krohn & Associates for completion of rate study for the waste water utility.

• Approved contract agreements with Kleinpeter Consulting. The first, in the amount of $3,000, will provide an income survey. The second, in the amount of $5,000, will provide an environmental review. Both the survey and environmental review are required to apply for OCRA funding related to waste water projects.

• Approved multiple work order requests for city crews to mow the following properties: 301/303 W. North St., owned by Dan Malek; 313 N. Grant Ave., owned by Dan Malek, (work also includes trash removal); 1000 E. Market St., owned by GS Investment Property Inc.; 601 Robinson St., owned by Wiper Corp.; 809 S. Walnut St., owned by Shaun Pyle; 403 Covington St., owned by Edward Robinson; and  1500 Meridian St., owned by Richard and Patricia Porterfield. Cost of the work is added as lien on the property.
