Boilermakers open season with Johnson on the hill

Posted

Purdue starting pitcher Trent Johnson earned a no-decision in a come-from-behind Boilermaker win over Hofstra on Friday to open the 2020 season.

The former Crawfordsville standout and Indiana All-Star took the ball for the Boilers on opening day, but Hofstra ended the junior’s day after 2 2/3 innings pitched. Hofstra led 3-1 when Johnson left, but Purdue rallied for a 9-6 win with a three-run fourth and a five-run eighth.

Johnson was charged with three runs on five hits, and walked three, but struck-out four in his season debut.
