LINDEN — North Montgomery never got on track Friday in a 49-0 loss to Monon Athletic Conference foe Cascade. The Cadets benefited from six Charger turnovers.
Cascade’s offense proved no match for the outmanned Charger defenders. Cascade churched out 399 rushing yards and completed two passes for 36 yards for a total of 435 total yards.
When North Montgomery was not turning the ball back to the Cadets, they found it rough gaining ground. The Chargers totaled 152 yards in the game which included a mere 19 yards through the air.
“Cascade is a good team and they are big,” Charger Coach Josh Thompson said. “We have a very small margin of error against a good team and we made too many mistakes.”
Starting Charger quarter back Lincoln Hiede, who left the game in the second quarter due to an injury was harassed by the Cadet defense. The junior connected on 3-of-5 passes for (-1) yard with two interceptions. Heide fumbled the ball on the play he was injured and the loose ball was recovered by Cascade.
Reserve senior quarterback Cayden Eller completed 6-of-14 passes for 20 yards and threw three interceptions.
Cascade led 35-0 at the half which resulted in a running clock the entire second half.
Cadet junior Timothy Turner rushed the ball 15 times for 202 yards and five touchdowns.
After the Cadets scored early in the second half Cascade coach Nick Brickens, played reserves the rest of the game.
The Cadet reserves were able to add a touchdown in the final period.
Charger speedy running back Dakota Glasson led North with 93 yards rushing on 13 attempts.
Thompson said his players need to execute and be more competitive on defense.
“We must have the players get where they are supposed to be and tackle better,” Thompson said. “We have players who can make plays, but against Cascade we were could not. We have to get better.”
The Chargers (1-3, 0-2 MAC) need to find answers quickly. Next up is a Friday trip to Western Boone (2-2, 0-2 MAC).
