The League of Women Voters of Montgomery County supports and encourages voter education regarding all levels of government. To provide insight into a recently established local government position, the League of Women Voters of Montgomery County have asked Mark Casteel to discuss his new role as county administrator with us. This discussion is free and open to all. Bring your lunch and join us from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at Whitlock Hall, 212 S. Green St.

In 2019, Montgomery County Commissioners voted to create the new position of county administrator. This is a paid, non-elected position appointed by the county commissioners. This newly established position includes working closely with commissioners to oversee the day-to-day operations of the county and includes preparing the county budget and supervising department heads. In addition, the county administrator will be the spokesperson for the county and will manage the human resource program for the county. Last fall, Casteel, the former Montgomery County Sheriff, accepted the position.

There are many questions surrounding the specifics of this new position, including how did Montgomery County handle this work prior to the new position? Where do the funds for the new position come from? What type of challenges face Casteel in this position? Come and learn with us and take this opportunity to meet our new government official.
