Humans United for Equality’s Celebration of Unity will return for its eighth year from 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 19 at Pike Place.
Celebration of Unity was created to bring people together from all different walks of life, Kathy Walker, a volunteer and spokesperson for HUE said.
“We’re all about unifying, giving those marginalized populations a voice and a presence,” Walker said. “These are the kinds of things that we need to show our commonalities and celebrate our differences. We’re all unique. Every single one of us.”
The event will feature entertainment from several local performers, including Crawfordsville Choirs and Dance By Deborah Performance Dance Troupe. There also will be circus-style performances, including stilt walkers, along with piñatas provided by Little Mexico.
Many organizations will have booths at the event, including CANDLES Holocaust Museum & Education Center and Ability Services Inc. ASI will have artwork for sale created by their clients at their booth.
There also will be several food vendors, along with free hot dogs provided by Hoosier Heartland State Bank.
A number of local entities, providers, service organizations and groups will participate in the event, Walker said.
“Again, celebrating the diversity of our community and just working to have people feel welcome and a part,” Walker said.
The event is family-oriented and will include activities for children and families.
HUE also thanked this year’s sponsors, including Random Penguin House, Hoosier Heartland State Bank, the League of Women Voters of Montgomery County, Wabash College, Valero, First Christian Church, Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church, Joshi Pediatrics, Christ Lutheran Church, The Episcopal Church, InWell, the Malcolm X Institute of Black Studies and the city of Crawfordsville.
