Overcoming Challenges

Chamber, Duke Energy celebrate teachers with inaugural Emerald Educators Awards

Posted

The Crawfordsville/Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Duke Energy, will honor county teachers with a new award. The Chamber of Commerce Emerald Educator award will be presented annually to one teacher, administrator or other individual who exemplifies the award criteria in each of the three Montgomery County school corporations.

In the inaugural year, The Chamber will celebrate all Montgomery County educators during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 3-7.

“Teachers and education professionals have overcome challenge after challenge in the past year, and we want them to know how appreciated they are,” said Cassie Hagan, Chamber executive director. “We’ve seen teachers literally meeting students where they are, not only to ensure the education process moves forward for all, but also going above and beyond to check-in with their students’ general well-being during the pandemic and to support parents who were thrust into home learning situations. The Chamber, with Duke Energy, would like to publicly recognize all of those educators this year. We also recognize that coaches, counselors, aides and many, many other school staff and volunteers play a major role in the education process. We celebrate all of those educators as well. Thank you all for your dedication, innovation, and compassion to keep students safe and learning.”

Parents, students and fellow educators are invited to join in celebrating Montgomery County educators this year, by sharing messages of gratitude, personal stories and photos with your favorite teachers. Submit your stories and photos to the Chamber at info@crawfordsvillechamber.com or share on social media tagging the Chamber.

“We would like your help in sharing the stories of the good work our teachers have done in 2020-21,” Hagan said.

In the future, the awards will be selected based on nominations made by community members, including parents, students, administrators and teachers. Emerald Educators will be recognized at the Chamber’s annual awards dinner, alongside Small Business, Large Business, Entrepreneur, Woman and Community Organization of the Year awards.

The awards dinner is scheduled for Sept. 2 at the Crawfordsville Country Club. Representatives will be invited to accept the first awards on behalf of their corporations.
