Charger offense keeps rolling versus Warriors

Posted

DANVILLE — North Montgomery baseball’s offense is firing on all cylinders as the Chargers scored double digit runs again in a 10-3 win over Danville for a season sweep of the Warriors on Wednesday. In their last four wins the Chargers have scored 25, 15, 15, and 10 runs.

Sophomore Corbin Meadows also shined on the mound for the Chargers as he would throw a complete game allowing just five hits and just one earned run.

“I just really love where our team is at right now,” Charger coach Matt Voorhees said. “The guys really love playing with one another and you can see it out there. Every single guy in our lineup is contributing and they’re really coming together as a team.”

Eight different Chargers collected a hit as they finished with 11 in the game. Jarrod Kirsch picked up a pair of hits as did both Austin Sulc and Meadows. Jakob Kirsch and Ross Dyson each scored a pair of runs while Sulc, Dyson and Brookes Walters all drove in two runs each.

The big inning for the Chargers came in the top of the third after Danville had take a 2-1 lead. North Montgomery put together a six-run third inning and blew the doors open. They also added a single run in the fifth and two more in the seventh.

“Corbin did a phenomenal job on the mound for us tonight,” Voorhees added. “He settled down after that second inning went the distance and was able to keep their hitters off balance all night.”

The win for the Chargers improves their record to 7-2 (4-0) on the season as North Montgomery is able to keep pace with county rival Crawfordsville for the top spot in the Sagamore Conference.

A season ago the Chargers in their two games against the Warriors were outscored a combined 16-0. This season the Chargers returned the favor and were able to outscore the Warriors 25-8 in their two match ups. North Montgomery while there is still plenty of season left to be played, has made it known they will be right in the thick of things for one of the top spots in the conference.

“These kids have a great swagger and confidence about them right now,” Voorhees said of the SAC sweep of the Warriors. “Danville has been a good program for a long time and for us to pick up two wins against them is huge. We still have teams like Lebanon, Frankfort and Crawfordsville left on our schedule, but these guys believe they can go out there and compete with anyone in the conference. We aren’t going to get ahead of ourselves just yet but we want to bring North Montgomery back when people talk about the top teams in our conference.”

The Conference schedule will continue for the Chargers on Saturday when they will make the quick trip to the south side of Montgomery County to take on county rival Southmont. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. and the game between the Mounties and Chargers can be heard on WIMC 103.9 with Jared McMurry and Bob Cox.
