Chargers eager to return to pool

Posted

North Montgomery swimming looks to be on the rise. The Chargers are coming off another season of sening individuals to the IHSAA State Finals as a season ago they sent the relay team of seniors Maggie Michael and Gracen Schwabe along with Annabel Anderson and Brooklyn Kerns. The Chargers do lose a little leadership with Michael graduating along with Sydnee Turner, Lilly Wallace and Ida Rastreli.

That isn’t detering coach Erin Yeager as she’s more than confident in her teams ability to still have a good season as the goals have been set.

“Our girl’s team may have lost several great leaders, but we have several more stepping in to fill the gap,” Yeager said. “The girls have been working hard in the off season both in and out of the pool and they are making gains.  We hope to be in the top half at the conference meet and in the top quarter at sectional. This is a group of girls that is up to a challenge and has a great hard work attitude.”

Returners for the Chargers include  and Kerns and Ava Mershon for their sophomore seasons. Anderson returns for her junior year as does Jordyn Frommer. Elizabeth Cain, Jessie Clark, and Cascie Keller make up the three seniors for North Montgomery.

For the Charger boys, they have the luxury that not many teams get as they return every single person from last year’s team. They’ll have 14 individuals total and that number of swimmers has Yeager thrilled for what the season might hold.

“That is a big jump in numbers from last year, we got most all of our underclassmen back and they brought along some friends,” she said. We are hoping to see some more dual meet victories and get out of the last spots at conference and sectional.”

The boys will feature five seniors this season as Jamason Burget, Nate Helgers, Colton Spangler-McMullen, Landon Patterson, and Xavier Montalvo will look to lead the Charger boys.

North Montgomery girls already have victories over Danville and Greencastle in three-team meet this season as well as Fountain Central on Saturday. The boys will join the girls when the Chargers host WeBo on Tuesday for their home opener.
